Web Developer - GIS

Job Description

East View Geospatial, a world leader in sourcing maps and geospatial data from countries around the globe, seeks a Web Developer to provide development and maintenance on our geospatial e-commerce website along with future involvement with other company websites.  The individual we seek will have a solid background in web design, development and maintenance.  Background knowledge in geography/GIS is a plus.

We serve libraries, government, and corporate clients all over the world.  Our customers need rapid access to high-quality maps and GIS data quickly.  Providing a fast, effective, and stable web platform is a key element to providing e-commerce revenue and maintaining our position as the leading provider of geospatial data in the world.

Key Duties:

  • Create site layout/user interface from provided design concepts using standard web technologies.
  • Develop robust and user-friendly VueJS web applications using TypeScript
  • Contribute to the complete design of applications from layout/user interface to relational database structures.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop and support e-commerce platforms and create new enhancements to our web presence. 
  • Assist with framework/Service/Database design as needed. 
  • Gather specification/requirements as needed. 
  • Provide expertise with Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
  • Support routine daily maintenance of existing sites and applications. 
  • Provide accurate and reliable documentation related to application servers. 
  • Implement new technologies and perform migration to new platforms. 
  • Respond as needed during off-hours to system failures. 

 

Qualifications:

  • AA, BA/BS or MS in software engineering, programming, computer science or work equivalent
  • 3-5 years' experience of web application design, preferably some experience in GIS applications and geospatial data
  • Must Have:
    • Proven experience with VueJS, TypeScript, and their respective toolchains, including but not limited to Node, npm, and vue-cli
    • Front-end design aptitude
    • Familiarity with version control systems
    • Google Analytics and Webmaster tools
    • Working knowledge of GNU/Linux
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
    • Awareness and pride in 100% client satisfaction.
    • Strong communication and writing skills.
    • Ability to communicate directly with peers, managers, and clients while leading development to a completed and successful solution.
    • Strong organization skills to manage multiple timelines and complete tasks quickly within the constraints of clients' timelines and budgets.
  • Additionally:
    • Working knowledge of Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code
    • Experience with C#, ASP.Net Core Web APIs, and EntityFramework Core
    • Knowledge of OpenLayers
    • Experience with container-based technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
    • Familiarity with modern RDBMS such as PostgreSQL and SQL
