Job Title:  Environmental Data Analyst

Job Type:  Full-time, Exempt, Salaried

Reports to:  IT Director

Location:  Downtown Portland, one block from the Yamhill District MAX Station

GSI Water Solutions is seeking an environmental data analyst to support its database services across its California and Oregon offices. 

The successful candidate will be based in our Portland, Oregon office and work with GSI scientists and water resource analysts to manage environmental and water resource-related data for our public and private clients in the Pacific Northwest and California. You will utilize your talents to support projects related to the evaluation and remediation of large contaminated sites and rivers, as well as the management of water resources in Western States.  The position will allow you to use your creativity and entrepreneurial skills to bring new ideas and data management approaches to our clients.  If you are seeking to make a career move to a position with great growth potential, this is the position for you.

In this role you will: 

Assist with data management and analysis effort

Provide reporting support by generating tables, charts, graphs, and 3D graphics to help interpret data and develop solutions to address complex problems 

Document work processes and recommend quality assurance/quality control procedures for our projects

Act as a data quality liaison between the project staff, clients, analytical laboratory, and data validator 

Work independently to research and implement new methods to address emerging challenges faced by our clients

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

 We follow CDC and OHA COVID-19 guidelines. 

Position Type/Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with a regular work schedule of 40 hours per week.

Required Education and Experience

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typically, that would include the following:

3+ years of relevant experience with an emphasis on environmental data management

Bachelor's degree in environmental science, data science, or a related field

Demonstrated SQL and relational database skills (SQL Server, Microsoft Access)

Experience working with analytical data, including familiarity with electronic data deliverables (EDDs), detection limits, data qualifiers, etc

Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) 

Demonstrated expertise using MS Excel and Microsoft Access to manipulate and organize data sets for import into a database and for final reporting.

Valued Education and Experience

Experience with chemical data 

Understanding of GIS concepts

Experienced with statistical analysis software like SAS or SPSS

Knowledge of programming languages (Python or R preferably)

Experienced with data visualization tools such as Power BI
